Other readings: A variety of shorter readings will be sent to students on a weekly basis.

Schedule:

Week One: Theme: National Politics and the folk music scene. Overview of class and schedule of topics, readings, etc.

Week Two: Theme: Civil Rights and influence of Rhythm & Blues music

Week Three: Theme: Country & Western music and the other America

Week Four: Theme: Counterculture Music & The impact of Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll

Instructional Tools: Lectures, videos, music, books, articles, and student personal recollections over the four weeks.

Pre-course meeting: I would like to assemble the class for brief introductions and a few ground rules for successfully communicating in a Zoom environment. Expect an invitation as soon as the class list is available.
